$112,877; $125,217; and $132,045 (flat-rated)

- Candidates from the eligible list are normally appointed to vacancies in the lower pay grade positions.
- Higher salaries may be paid for night work.
- Candidates who possess either a Grade 3, 4, or 5 certificate for Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants may be entitled to an additional biweekly bonus, pursuant to the MOU.
A Wastewater Treatment Operator operates wastewater treatment, reclamation, sludge processing, and air pollution control equipment at a wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater Treatment Operators at the higher pay grade may serve as a lead worker.
NOTE:A Wastewater Treatment Operator may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. The working conditions in this class are unpleasant due to the presence of wastewater and its products. Some personal hazards are involved in working in high places, around moving machinery, and in contact with toxic gases and chemicals such as chlorine, hydrogen sulfide gas, or coagulants.

In accordance with Civil Service Rule 4.2, all applicants who apply may not be tested in this examination. To meet anticipated hiring needs, only a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process in the following order: 1) Applicants currently employed by the City of Los Angeles who meet the minimum requirements, or are on a reserve list; 2) Remaining applicants who meet the minimum requirements in sufficient numbers to meet hiring needs based on a random sampling of those qualified candidates. Multiple Choice - 100%
The examination will consist entirely of a weighted multiple-choice test administered and proctored on-line. In the on-line multiple-choice test, the following competencies may be evaluated: Teamwork; Follow Written Directions; Written Communication; Safety Focus, including knowledge of: Cal/OSHA regulations and safety principles and practices related to personal protection equipment, safety equipment, and proper handling, storing, and labeling of chemicals; safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment; emergency procedures; first aid procedures; Job Knowledge, including the knowledge of: preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary wastewater treatment procedures; effluent disposal procedures; anaerobic sludge digestion procedures; sludge dewatering procedures; odor control methods; wastewater treatment equipment; mechanical equipment preventative maintenance; cleaning methods related to wastewater treatment; Lockout Blockout procedures; Mechanical Aptitude, including knowledge of: the relationship between flow, rotational speed, valve position, pressure, temperature, and level; and other necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.

The multiple-choice test will be proctored and administered on-line during a single session. Candidates invited to participate in the on-line multiple-choice test will be able to take the test from a remote location (i.e., their home) using a computer with a webcam and a reliable internet connection. Candidates will receive an e-mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the dates and specific steps on how to take the qualifying multiple-choice test on-line. It is anticipated that the remote proctored qualifying multiple-choice test will be held between TUESDAY, JULY 16, 2024 and MONDAY, JULY 22, 2024. Candidates who do not complete and submit the remote proctored multiple-choice test on-line using a computer by the specified date and time will not be considered further in this examination.

This examination is based on a validation study and, as provided by Civil Service Commission Rule 4.20, the multiple-choice test will not be subject to candidate inspection.
